Pakistan is gearing up to make a significant advancement in transportation with its first-ever bullet train project, which will connect the cities of Lahore and Rawalpindi. Recently approved by Punjab’s Chief Minister, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, this high-speed rail line is expected to greatly enhance domestic travel within the province and set the stage for next-generation infrastructure.
The proposed rail service will slash the current travel time of 5 to 6 hours down to approximately 2 to 2.5 hours, thanks to speeds commonly associated with bullet trains. This reduction in commute time is poised to benefit daily travelers, businesses, and the economy at large by improving access between key urban hubs.
The project will be undertaken in partnership with Pakistan Railways, with multiple financing models under review, including public-private collaboration. While specific project costs and timelines have not been officially confirmed, the government has made clear that this is a priority initiative aimed at modernizing transport and improving regional mobility.
